Accessibility statement
I want everyone to be able to use this site, whatever device, browser or assistive technology they use.
The standard
This site aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. It is partially conformant: most of it meets the standard, with the exceptions listed below.
What’s in place
- Everything works with a keyboard alone. A “Skip to content” link comes first, and the link or button you’re on is always outlined.
- Text and background colours meet WCAG AA contrast ratios, including the light text on the dark design.
- Each page has one main heading and a logical heading order, and the main content, navigation and footer are marked as such for screen readers.
- Images that carry meaning have text alternatives; decorative ones are hidden from screen readers.
- The layout adapts to small screens and browser zoom without sideways scrolling, and links and buttons are at least 24 pixels tall.
- The interactive travel globe comes with the same places as a plain list.
How it was tested
On 28 October 2026, every type of page on the site was checked with axe-core (WCAG 2.0 to 2.2, levels A and AA, plus best practices), with Google Lighthouse, and by hand with a keyboard alone. The issues found were fixed, and the checks now pass.
Automated tools catch only part of what matters. A review with a screen reader is the next step.
Known limitations
- The travel globe is a 3D graphic that can’t be used with a screen reader or a keyboard. The full list of places is right below it.
- The older blog posts date from 2011 to 2016, before this redesign. Some of their images may not have useful descriptions.
- Content from other services: the legal policies are embedded from Termageddon, and the comment form uses a Cloudflare Turnstile check. Both are outside my control and may not fully meet the standard.
Tell me what doesn’t work
If something on this site doesn’t work for you, please tell me: email [email protected] with [ACCESSIBILITY] in the subject line, and say which page and what happened. I aim to reply within five working days, and to fix what I can or send you the information another way.
